Surface mold sampling is the most common method of mold testing and is effective in testing for mold presence. Typically, the inspector uses an inspection kit to collect samples, which are then sent to the laboratory for testing. There are different sample collection methods in this mold sampling method: tape sampling, carpet sampling, and swab sampling.
The most common areas to collect samples from are:
- Pipes, especially where there have been leaks
- Areas with roof leaks
- Basements, especially ones that have leaks and flooding

- Areas in the home with poor air circulation
Tape mold sampling happens to be the most common type of surface mold sampling. Here, the inspector uses a sampling kit to collect several samples to be sent for laboratory testing. Carpet mold sampling is taking place in areas within the house where there is a carpet. A sample is taken from a carpet snip, or a clear vacuum bag remains. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for testing for the availability of mold. Commonly, if a carpet sample tests positive for the presence of mold, or if the mold is visible, the carpet should be disposed of carefully and replaced with a new one. The reason for this is that mold is difficult to eradicate from a surface.

The EMF Home and Bedroom Assessment Process
This is an interactive process and should be experienced by yourself, and your significant other, if you have one. It will take approximately 2 to 3 hours and conclude with a discussion of the findings and solutions.
The following is included in an EMF home assessment:
- The measurement of low frequency magnetic fields from power cables and wiring running past the home, to the home and to some extent into the home
- The measurement of low frequency magnetic fields from solar panels and inverters
- The measurement of low frequency electric field exposure, here we ask you to lie on your bed and then we measure the body for exposure, we actually find this is an issue in 90-95% of the homes.

Peer reviewed research have found over the years that you definitely don’t want a reading of just 1 milligauss (1 mG) in your home. Some instruments use a flat measurement, others a weighted measurement, as a guideline you generally don’t want to exceed between 0.8 mG and 0.3 mG.

- High voltage power lines (transmission lines, aka the ‘walkers’) – anywhere within ¾ of a mile.

Radon Gas Testing
A radon test is another vital home inspection test. The most common form of exposure to humans is through the air during respiration. According to medical practitioners, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in America. Radon is also known to cause other forms of cancer. Therefore, radon testing is important.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that originates from a combination of uranium, radium, or thorium dissolved in the groundwater, soil, or rocks. Radon is odorless and colorless, yet so dangerous. Testing is the only way you will know the radon level. Any home may have an elevated radon level.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) , the maximum “acceptable” level of radon is 4.0 pCi/L, but even that level is not “safe”, per se. The EPA strongly recommends you consider radon mitigation between levels 2.0 and 4.0. For perspective, the average outdoor air level of radon is 0.4 pCi/L. The EPA, actually recommends testing every two years.
